Always have a look at a picture or video of the dance floor you are thinking of hiring. This will help you to visualize it inside your venue.
Here is a video of one in action.
Most venues come with a normal dance floor but this is to create a central area where people can dance and also to protect the floor from all the wear and tare.
In my opinion the normal plain dance floor looks boring and dull. Most of the time the bland dance floor sticks out like a sore thumb when you decorate the venue.
If you are getting married in the London, Thames Valley, Middlesex, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire area then your choice of dance floor has to be the white led, also called P light and starlok dance floor the white panels fitted out with hundreds of white led's looks absolutely fantastic twinkling like stars at night. This is the floor that every bride wants to have her first dance on.
That is why many people hire the white LED dance floor - it transforms the venue and is the like the icing on the cake when it comes to completing any party.

How big Should My Dance Floor Be For My Wedding?
Our event planners can help you choose how big you're wedding dance floor needs to be. As a rule of thumb, you can assume 40% of your party will be dancing at any given time. There are a few things to consider when choosing a dance floor size.
Who will be Dancing?
Old dancers
If the majority of your guests are elderly and low of low energy, you can expect a poor attendance on the dance floor. If you have a younger crowd high energy, then expect the exact opposite. In our experience we have found for most weddings you can use the 40% rule. Hope this helps.
How much room does each dancing couple need?
The industry standard implies that each couple will need 9 sq ft per couple (that equates to 4.5 ft per person). Take an example:
Let us make the assumption that you have a party with 300 guests.
40%, of this or 120 guests, are dancing at any one time.
To accommodate this number you would need approximately 600 square feet of dance floor for this party, or a 24×24 dance floor.
If you figure 80 of 200 guests will dance, then you need about a 400 square foot dance floor. If you double that for 400 guests you would need an 800 square foot dance floor. With 300 guests as in our example you would need a 600 foot dance floor. This is an indicator but it shows how easily thing can get out of hand. Use your intuition only you know your crowd. You have to consider many variables such as the age of your guests and who will be dancing at any given time.
It is common for couples to inquire about hiring a dance floor a lot bigger than is needed and it can be an unnecessary cost. We always suggest speaking with venues, marquee companies and dance floor suppliers to ensure you get exactly what you
need.
The worst outcome is either hiring a dance floor too small
Or
Paying for a dance floor that is too big for the number of guests

When it comes to choosing your dance floor size, we have found that a 12’x12’ dance floor usually accommodates a small to medium wedding. That’s 144 square feet. We have also found dance floors smaller than that are typically a waste of time. We have 6 set dance floor sizes to choose from. These sizes allow us to accommodate most wedding receptions wonderfully. Call the Luxury Dream Events Team if you have questions about any of our dance floors.
But ultimately the size will depend on your venue so discuss this with the venue manager / wedding coordinator.
